Inkjet printers are the fastest growing technology in the printing world today. It’s easy to see why given the advantages they have over conventional digital print systems including ease of use, short turnaround time and on demand printing. So how do they work? Primary ink colors are passed through a print head which disperses ink droplets via its micro-sized nozzles on to special inkjet receptive material. To visualize, picture tiny colored ink droplets being sprayed onto a material surface to build an image. What makes inkjet material special? One word, Top-coating. The surface of inkjet material is covered with a coating that allows the ink to be evenly absorbed into the material without smudging, bleeding or oversaturation. The coating is responsible for keeping the colorant in the ink close to the surface which results in brighter and more vibrant color. Without an inkjet receptive top-coat your printed output will appear dull and oversaturated with loss of resolution and contrast. Inkjet coating also allows for printing on a multitude of different material types including textured paper to gloss synthetic PET. Do not settle for material that is not suited for your inkjet printer.
